Our story

In 2022 a friend of Dean Forbes set out to make a Blanc de Blancs from Chardonnay grown in South Africa. Dean invested, the bottle launched, and it found its people quietly over the four years that followed.

This year, Dean acquired 100% of Severan.

He could have kept it that way. Instead he asked Ann-Marie Hackett to stand alongside him as co-owner. The two of them have spent years celebrating each other's moments, the ones everybody saw and the ones nobody did, so building something together around exactly that felt like the natural thing to do.

Severan is about those moments. The ones that matter to you. A bottle for the promotion, the reunion, the Sunday that turned into something, and the quiet win nobody else noticed.

The wine

A Blanc de Blancs Brut, made in the traditional method from a single grape, all Chardonnay, grown in Franschhoek. Aged two and a half years on the lees before release, so it comes through fine, elegant and dry. Made properly, and made quietly, which is the only way we know how to do it.
